I've just hit myself with my cluebat, several times.  Sorry,
I do have an 8.2 and 9 machine, but this one is only 8.  Duh!
That was probably the source of some of my other difficulties,
too.  Hmmmm, I thought I upgraded that one this fall.

The good news is that a pristine RedHat 9 distro boots just fine
via Xen.
