Hm, yes it probably could, since the limit of 32 VCPUs for PV guests on i386
is because of lack of space for guest GDT/LDT mappings, which is not an
issue for HVM. But frankly it's not worth chasing this. Any large
HVM-capable system is going to support 64-bit operation, and therefore the
right thing to do is install the x86_64 hypervisor. Personally I consider
the i386 hypervisor obsolescent.
