The reason is that we are/will be using bridging really extensively,
possibly soon with Xen virtual machines, although the configuration of
the bridges is going to be totally custom.

what I think is missing is a decent HOWTO which explains how to go from 0 to a fully setup bridge with xen. 7.2 could be a bit more verbose on this with command examples,
