[Xen-users] Segmentation Fault & Root /dev/ does not exist
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello List,
So I managed to get Xen 3.0.1 compiled and installed, but the machine
failed to boot from the Xen kernel. The server's physically located at
a Co-lo, so I'm having to rely on somebody on the other end to tell me
what it's doing and saying.
When I try to boot the -xen0 kernel, the screen fills up with
Segmentation Faults and then errors that /dev/sda5 does not exist (the
root device passed to vmlinuz-2.6.12.6-xen0 in menu.lst). It then drops
me into a busybox shell, where a "uname -a" tells me I'm running a
2.6.12.6-xen0 kernel.
My Debian (non-Xen) kernel requires an initrd, so I assumed I would
need one for Xen as well. However, I was not sure if I should create
the initrd for /boot/xen-3.0.1.gz or for /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.12.6-xen0,
so I created it for vmlinuz-2.6.12.6-xen0.
You can see a screenshot of what it's doing here:
http://www.6texans.net/img/xen_segfault.jpg
Also, here's the section for Xen from Grub's menu.lst:
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.12.6-xen0
root (hd0,0)
kernel /xen-3.0.gz dom0_mem=262144
module /vmlinuz-2.6.12.6-xen0 root=/dev/sda5 ro console=tty0
module /initrd.img-2.6.12.6-xen0
savedefault
boot
Any tips or suggestions?
TIA,
Jacob
