Thread-topic: Xen/ia64 multiple domains and SMP-Xen support NOW in xen-unstable!
I have just successfully tested Xen/ia64 multiple domain
support (non-VTI) and SMP-host support built from xen-unstable.hg
cset 7769. This is the first time these two major pieces
of functionality have worked in a build straight from
the xen-unstable.hg tree. (Both have been working off
and on for months, but out-of-tree.) This is very timely
because rumors say that Xen 3.0 is about to freeze.

I would like to recognize Intel's Kevin Tian for the
tremendous amount of tedious and difficult work he has
done over the last few months, keeping up with the rapid
major changes in both xen-ia64-unstable and xen-unstable, to
enable us to reach this milestone. Also, Matt Chapman
who designed and coded the changes to get the (often
very x86-specific) domain loader and Xen block drivers
working on Xen/ia64. And also Keir Fraser for putting up
with the many many partial merges over the last few
months and the temporary ia64 ifdefs.

There is still much work to do. There is some instability
in ia64 domUs that will need to be tracked down. Virtual
networking still needs to be brought up for ia64. And
then SMP guests and migration. However, it should be
much easier to complete this work -- and keep up with
other Xen functional changes -- with a known solid
central tree to work from. We also need to plug into
a good daily regression test suite to avoid losing this
hard-won gain.

Congratulations to everyone who helped Xen/ia64 achieve
this milestone!

Dan
