Are you trying to use 2.6.38 as dom0 or domU?
If this test is a dom0 2.6.38 test then you should know that upstream
2.6.38 doesn't have a network backend yet.
IanC is working on it and he has already sent a some patches to the lkml
a little while ago. If you want to give it a try, checkout Konrad's
devel/next-2.6.38.
