And - just as an addition to Mark's answer - 3ware modules are included in the 
vanilla kernel (checked for 2.6.15.1, and i am running a xen dom0 on 2.6.12.6 
with one 3ware 9xxx controller). There is no need for a custom kernel (except 
the xen customizations) on dom0.
