Yep, Xen 3.4 doesn't have pygrub grub2 support. Xen 4.1.3 (and later versions) 
do have it.

Just use mercurial to fetch xen-unstable:
hg clone http://xenbits.xen.org/xen-unstable.hg

To send/submit patches against xen-unstable:
http://wiki.xen.org/wiki/Submitting_Xen_Patches

Also if you want, you can write documentation about Xen+Illumos on wiki.xen.org.
