I just tried the Fedora 13 Linux 2.6.33 (2.6.33.3-85.fc13.x86_64) kernel 
and it seems to work OK.

What exact upstream kernel.org kernels you are trying to make work? 

I assume you're familiar with debugging crashing guest kernels?
