does "(hd0,5)/boot/grub/menu.lst" exist?

you can try:

grubdom>configfile (hd0,5)/boot/grub/menu.lst

because:

I'm not sure whether it will affect grub to determine the disk order. please
try: (hd0,4)/boot/grub/menu.lst
