have you been able to rolling upgrade without downtime as per chapter 4 
of http://www.xen.org/files/XenCloud/installation.pdf ? I've been able 
to update the pool from 0.1.1 to 0.5, but I couldn't migrate the VMs 
from the 0.1.1 slave to the 0.5 master during the rolling upgrade, so I 
had to shut them down first. Perhaps I did something wrong...
