Thread-topic: [XCP] upgrade tips
Hi,

I should have sent this sooner but here are some tips which will hopefully help
with XCP upgrades (eg. from 0.1 to 0.1.1):

1. The host installer automatically backs up the dom0 partition before upgrade.
If all goes horribly wrong then reboot into the installer and select 'restore'
from the menu

2. Upgrade the pool master first; upgrade slaves afterwards. If you
accidentally upgrade the slave first then either 'restore' to the old version
or proceed to upgrade the pool master. Slave xapi processes don't talk to older
master xapi processes so the CLI/API won't work until the versions match again.

3. If you have shared storage then, for extra safety, use the manual DR feature
on the host text console: Backup, Restore and Update/Backup Virtual Machine
Metadata. This allows you to back up VM metadata to a shared SR. If you then
re-attach the storage to a fresh install (text console: Disks and Storage
Repositories/Attach Existing Storage Repository) then you can restore the
metadata afterwards.

Cheers,
Dave
