If you are going to compile from source to install xen, it is better to not install the virtualization 
package in CentOS 5.2. Otherwise there will be an nasty error with xm (ACMError) related to
XSM. Don't mix the two methods.

CentOS 5.2 and Fedora 8 do have native support for running a system in dom0 mode built in.

If you install CentOS 5.2 it will install kernel-xen-2.6.18, an update (also 2.6.18 but newer) can be obtained using yum update.
