I once found this page about mounting files excluding some information about partitions and stuff, check it out, maybe it'll help you: http://iscsitarget.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/SelfMountingExportedVolumes

I know you're not using iscsi, but maybe it guides you to a solution.
