Re: [Xen-users] xen guest to use other linux kernel

Hi Fajara,

Thanks for your advise. Currently, my domO is debian and CentOS for domU. I'm not sure if virt-manager will work for Debian but I'm going to find another alternative way for debian side. Appreciate if you can advise me for debian package.

TIA,

-james

Hi Fajar,

Your first paragraph is what I meant. Do you have recommended website for complete/detailed howto guides for procedure? Thanks!

In RHEL/Centos you can simply use virt-manager (the easy way), and it will setup domU to boot with pygrub by default. Detailed steps is available on Redhat/Centos manual.
http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.2/Virtualization/sect-Virtualization-Installing_guests-Create_a_guest_using_virt_manager.html

Another alternative would be here
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/InstallingCentOSDomU
which shows how install domU using network install, without virt-manager.

Fajar

       Hi All,

Is it possible to compile/use updated linux kernel on guest?
My xen guest is currently using my kernel host? I really don't

If you mean to ask "is it possible for guests (domU) to use kernel
located on their own filesystem instead of the one located on the
host's (dom0)", then the answer is yes. Install kernel-xen on domU
and boot it with with pygrub.
