Xen 3.1 added support for running both 32-bit and 64-bit domUs on a 64-bit
Xen. However, save/restore and migration were not supported /when the domU
had a different mode to dom0/. So you could run a 64-bit Xen with 32-bit
dom0 and be able to save/restore/migrate 32-bit domUs only. Or you could run
a 64-bit Xen with 64-bit dom0 and be able to save/restore/migrate 64-bit
domUs only.
For functionality other than save/restore/migrate, all domains should
generally behave the same.
The reason for this restriction is that some more restructuring is required in
the dom0 toolset to allow it to manipulate domains running in different mode
to dom0 itself.
I've not checked the situation for Xen 3.2 but your experience suggests that
the restriction has still not been lifted. If not, it should be fixed in a
future release. I'm afraid I don't know more specifically than that,
though :-(
Cheers,
Mark
