The kernel in Debian Etch doesn't have the smarts in the block driver to
be able to convert the structures between 32 and 64 bit (alignment
differences). The Debian Etch kernel is built from a very old version of
xen though (eg 3.0.x vintage). If you roll your own kernel from a recent
xen patch it should all work. Alternatively, last time I checked there
was a newer kernel in sid (unstable) that you could try.
