Oh, sorry Szabolcs (original poster); I also meant to mention:

Make sure you have the 'ioemu' options Jerry uses as above in the 'disk' 
and 'vif' parms. It makes a difference, even without PV drivers. (Although, I 
haven't tried the case where the image is on a physical partition, as you 
have it.) Also, basic Windows network setup: make sure your MTU is setup 
right. If you have a PPPOE connection to your ISP, your MTU is 1492, not 
1500, and needs to be setup in the Windows registry. I was original getting 
half the performance of my 3mps connection, but now I've gotten it up to 2.6. 
Disk performance is still half, though, and you get hits  on dom0, too.
