I combined several scripts and hints to install Ubuntu server on an Intel Pentium D (with VT) and use LVM.

When I reboot the new Xen system I find these last lines in /var/log/messages:

Jul 4 17:03:52 CS-Ron0 kernel: lo: Disabled Privacy Extensions

Jul 4 17:03:56 CS-Ron0 kernel: Bridge firewalling registered
Jul 4 17:03:56 CS-Ron0 kernel: device vif0.0 entered promiscuous mode
Jul 4 17:03:56 CS-Ron0 kernel: xenbr0: port 1(vif0.0) entering learning state Jul 4 17:03:56 CS-Ron0 kernel: xenbr0: topology change detected, propagating Jul 4 17:03:56 CS-Ron0 kernel: xenbr0: port 1(vif0.0) entering forwarding state Jul 4 17:03:56 CS-Ron0 kernel: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): peth0: link is not ready Jul 4 17:03:58 CS-Ron0 kernel: e1000: peth0: e1000_watchdog_task: NIC Link is Up 100 Mbps Full Duplex Jul 4 17:03:58 CS-Ron0 kernel: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): peth0: link becomes ready

When I start ubuntu, I see this (I start via ssh):

xm create -f ubuntu
Using config file "/etc/xen/ubuntu".
Error: Device 769 (vbd) could not be connected. Hotplug scripts not working.

/var/log/messages got from this try following additional lines:

Jul 4 17:06:23 CS-Ron0 kernel: device vif1.0 entered promiscuous mode
Jul 4 17:06:23 CS-Ron0 kernel: xenbr0: port 3(vif1.0) entering learning state Jul 4 17:06:23 CS-Ron0 kernel: xenbr0: topology change detected, propagating Jul 4 17:06:23 CS-Ron0 kernel: xenbr0: port 3(vif1.0) entering forwarding state

Jul 4 17:06:33 CS-Ron0 kernel: xenbr0: port 3(vif1.0) entering disabled state

The script I use is:
grep -v ^# /etc/xen/ubuntu |grep -v ^$
kernel = "/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.16-xen"
memory = 1024
name = "Ubuntu"
vif = [ '' ]
disk = [ 'phy:XenDomains/ubuntu,hda1,w' ]
root = "/dev/hda1 ro"
extra = "4"

What do I miss?

bye

Ronald
