If you're intending to use real mode, then VESA 2.x is sufficient, and
I
haven't seen any machines with only VESA 1.x in the past few years.
VESA 3.0 seems to be less common (the [few] machines I checked the
versions on were about 50:50 2.x and 3.0 respectively).
