I don't know if it helps but this smells somewhat like the problems the ss40g
had when it first came out.  It has a slightly buggy bios and acpi code,
apparently unfixable.  The Linux kernel has long since worked around the
problems; I haven't had to supply magic boot arguments since 2003.

I wonder if Xen could have regressed this somehow...?  Especially something in
the acpi code.
