Summary: xend will not start, /var/run/xenstored directory not
                    created.
           Product: Xen
           Version: 3.0.2
          Platform: x86
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Unspecified
        AssignedTo: xen-bugs@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
        ReportedBy: vanderro@xxxxxxxxx

I am using kubunto-drake and installed from the xen-3.0.2-src.tgz source
package. After fallowing the the users manual and booting into the xen kernel
'xend' would not start.

Apparently the init.d script does not create the 'xenstored' directory in
/var/run/. Thus it needs to be manually added.

mkdir -p /var/run/xenstored

after the directory was added, it started for me.
