Hi, I am running into an identical problem:

when I define

vif = [ '' ]

I get the following error message:
Error: Device 0 (vif) could not be connected. Hotplug scripts not working.

when I define

vif = [  ] (as suggested)

I get this message:

Error: Device 2049 (vbd) could not be connected. Hotplug scripts not working.

I am using xen 3.0, dom0 and xend working normal.
The funniest thing about it is, that I use xen 3.0 (same kernel, same distro) on
another workstation and it works flawless. I already looked for file permissions
and compared both machines but cannot find any differences.

regards, Michael
