I have the same thing going on: hypervisors with E5620 Xeon CPUs and
hypervisors with E5410 CPUs. Live migrations go wrong when domU's are
not created on the latter and move from the E5410 servers to more recent
ones. The rationale being that these CPU's have less or other
capabilities than the newer ones.

Is there any way to work around this?

You can set the cpuid to present common CPU model to the VM.

Hi Pasi,

no, first time I hear of it. I just googled a bit for that but there seems to
be little info on that.
The only seemly relevant info on that is here:

but that makes less sense to me.
Is this what you are referring to?

Hmm, the only places I find this are those about XenServer.Is this supposed to be possible with Xen 4.0.1?
