Generally, anything with plenty cores & Intel VT-d that you can afford :)
 XEON's work much better than the Intel Core ix (i.e. Core i3 / i5 /
i7) range. I prefer SuperMicro motherboards, but Intel also has some
good boards. Even on their desktop range.

Otherwise go for a Core2Quad / Core2Dou type setup, but try and take
the highest CPU cores that you can afford. And then look for a board
with the most RAM / SATA (or SAS) / GB LAN ports that you can afford.
