This could be only partially related at best, but I think virt-manager 
also uses libvirt. I remember trying virt-manager on 10.04 and the pvm 
would disappear from the manager gui's list right after starting it.  It 
would be interesting to see if any of the steps in your guide has a 
positive effect on that as well.
