Re: [Xen-users] XCP and vswitch

Hi Angel,
With vSwitch, every server still has its own switch, but it allows switches on
multiple servers to be controlled through a central controller. If you look at
a collection of xcp servers as a single entity (pool), such a controller is
able to provide an abstraction for the switches inside the servers, so it looks
like one big switch. This central controller is not part of the open source xcp
package.
So, if I want to use vswitch pool-wide, then I have to run vswitch
inside a virtual machine, haven't I?
The implementation of vswitch in xcp is still very new, and unfortunately there
is not a lot of documentation yet. All the XenAPI networking functionality,
however, abstracts from the underlying implementation (linux bridging or
vswitch), so if you use this, you do not have to worry about the details. I
haven't really looked at the xsconsole extension yet, but I suppose it just
provides some more fine-grained control for the vSwitch of the server it runs
on.
The only option it has is "Set pool-wide controller" (and a delete
one), that asks for the IP address of the controller, that makes sense
with the fact that I would need a central controller.
