I've actually just started doing this. The only thing I could think of is to
use the tsc via the KeQueryPerformanceCounter function. I'm not sure how well
that works under virtualisation, and if a context switch occurs under windows
it will throw things off, but as an average it might still be useful.
I can definitely see some indication of the routines we should be looking at...
