How long are you waiting at this point? Debian will drop back to a shell
in it's initramfs's it the root filesystem hasn't mounted after a while
(5 minutes maybe?).

Your root filesystem looks like it has actually mounted, but maybe the
initramfs doesn't know that?

I'm assuming here that ubuntu is more like Debian than different to
it...

PS anyone know why the xen mailing list footer comes through as an
attachment sometimes?
