Yes, this is possible. Does this mean that the domU itself has a kernel installed in its /boot partition?

For debian/ubuntu, look for debootstrap and rpmstrap which are already in debian/ubuntu. Ok.
Sorry, I can't answer the windows questions, but I am interested in the answers myself. It's ok.
