No, a xen-specific glibc will speed up some operations;  it shouldn't have 
anything to do with iptables. 
for iptables, the most common problem is out of sync kernel/modules;  for 
rhel/centos boxes, I install the kernel rpm on the domU (using qemu to 
install the DomU initially)  then I scp the kernel and initrd from /boot 
in the domU to some place in the Dom0, then in the xm config file, I set 
kernel= to that kernel/initrd I copied in.
