Stupid question:
Where is the definitive reference (besides the python source,
maybe, for this syntax. I found a "cdrom=" in some example file, and I'm
wondering
why "ioemu:hda,w", but "hdc:cdrom,r"...

I guess there's nothing better than the source in this case (but I am
not sure if even this gives you a fast and easy answer here). There is
the user manual, and "man xmdomain.cfg", and the example files that
come with the xen packages. But they seem all be incomplete, and not
to answer your question.
Maybe there's a release announcement that tells more about the
changes, or the developers can answer this.

The cdrom= syntax has changed in 3.0.3 example files to the above (see
also hvmexample cofig file), but I haven't played that much with 3.0.3
and hvm to know if cdrom= is completely obsolete now.
