This may not be directly related to your problem, but why don't you use
the latest glibc SRPM from RHEL4 U4 (or CentOS, for that matter). Last I
check it was glibc-2.3.4-2.25. I modified the .spec file to add
-mno-tls-direct-seg-refs, and it compiles successfully.
