Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found.  Try passing init= option to kernel.
Hi List,

facing following problem:

running Xen on Debian sarge I tried to create a domU with Fedora.

As I learned debootstrap is not available for Fedora I found rpmstrap.

Well, new to Debian and never seen Fedora (that's why I would like to get familiar with XEN) I followed some instructions found on the web.

dd if=/dev/zero of=fedora.img bs=1M count=1 seek=1024
/sbin/mke2fs -F -j fedora.img
mount -o loop fedora.img /mnt
for i in console null zero ; do /sbin/MAKEDEV -d /mnt/fedora/dev -x $i ; done
what lead me to my first problem:

/sbin/MAKEDEV: don't know how to make device "/mnt/fedora/dev"
/sbin/MAKEDEV: don't know how to make device "/mnt/fedora/dev"
/sbin/MAKEDEV: don't know how to make device "/mnt/fedora/dev"
OK - what's wrong? any idea?

However - I proceeded with

rpmstrap --verbose heidelberg /mnt/fedora/
and got

rpmdb: unable to initialize mutex: Function not implemented
rpmdb: /mnt/fedora/var/lib/rpm/__db.001: unable to initialize environment lock: Function not implemented
error: db4 error(38) from dbenv->open: Function not implemented
rpm: To install rpm packages on Debian systems, use alien. See README.Debian.
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - Function not implemented (38)
error: cannot open Packages database in /mnt/fedora/var/lib/rpm
warning: setup-2.5.36-1.noarch.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 4f2a6fd2
rpmdb: unable to initialize mutex: Function not implemented
rpmdb: /mnt/fedora/var/lib/rpm/__db.001: unable to initialize environment lock: Function not implemented
error: db4 error(38) from dbenv->open: Function not implemented
error: cannot open Packages database in /mnt/fedora/var/lib/rpm
rpmstrap: critical error: command "rpm --install   --root /mnt/fedora setup-2.5.36-1.noarch.rpm" failed
so...

Maybe I'm just on the wrong track or missed some debian packages to install.

But I'm pretty sue here a people around having installed Fedora on a Debian dom0 without any probs. Maybe there's a little howto for me.

thanx in advance

Mat
