I'm working VT-d for ia64.

Correct.

We need to maintain more,
We still need to modify linux kernel,
Such as event_callback,  accessing physical device, code sequence 
To check the running environment (native/xen/kvm) ...
Using Vti to emulate priviledged instruction can reduce ~half of the
patch.
Late on, we can put some non-performance critical patch into xen.
